Regardless of skill level, we always want to progress, to conquer tougher terrain, to be smoother and to go faster. It’s no secret that going too slowly can make rough terrain more difficult, but adding speed can be intimidating and increase the risk and severity of a crash.

Bonneville has been on my bucket list of places to see since I learned about it. This is a cathedral of speed, the place many of the world land-speed records have been made, and where countless records have fallen.
I started the process of rejetting my KTM 950 for the altitude, but after dropping and losing a bolt early in the process I decided to just run very rich with the sea-level setting. Morgan finally made it in later that night from Seattle.
In places where the road was cut into the side of hills the same thing would happen in a less pronounced manner. Needless to day it made for a few hours of very attentive driving.
My personal KTM 950 Adventure and Touratech-USA’s KTM 1190 Adventure R were strapped in for the journey and I can assure you they make a great sight in the rearview mirror.
