Today started off with an historic tour of El Fuerte with Ivan, then we made our way to Guaymas to catch a ferry to Baja.
In late March, the Backcountry Discovery Routes organization held its first fundraiser event called the Wickenburg Desert Ride. Operating out of a private oasis in the desert known as the Boyd Ranch, participants were treated to three meals a day from the chuck wagon and guided rides in some of Arizona’s best backcountry terrain.
Yesterday’s riding was a nice combination of road and relatively easy dirt. Today’s route back out of the canyon proved a bit more challenging for many.
Today we get an early start so that we can make it to Urique while it is still light out deep in the canyon.
Today’s ride is one of the longer ones, but the roads are twisty, and the scenery is breathtaking as we wind our way up to the upper Sierras.
African nations are often only known for their violence, power struggles and corrupt governments. However, there is a more positive side to South Africa and its neighbors to the northeast. There is genuine human warmth experienced daily, and for the most part you could easily be forgiven for thinking you are in a scene from a National Geographic documentary.
We get to know our group a little better over breakfast this morning, then take off for the first step of the trip: crossing the border into Mexico. Luckily for us, Juan and Alfonso are old hands at this process, and after waiting through a couple different lines, we’re all set.
Today, we arrive in Douglas, Arizona to kick off our adventure through Mexico with our friends at MotoDiscovery.
