For many people, a motorcycle isn’t just a means of transportation, it’s a way to escape; the ordinary, the everyday, the otherwise average. It takes you places only two wheels can – beyond the boundaries of the box, into the backcountry and across countries. Exploring, experiencing and enjoying everything along the way.
So when BMW’s new water-cooled R1200GS was introduced earlier this year – the latest iteration of their most popular model – it was only a matter of time before we outfitted the bike for its first adventure; a week long expedition to the southeast side of Utah.
An excuse to test the new 1200 in both an urban and off-road environment, our expedition began in our Seattle showroom, where we installed an assortment of accessories that would allow us to enjoy our adventure and not worry about whether the bike would be able to withstand the abuse.
An expedition skidplate, crash bars, radiator and headlight guard, as well as a Zega Pro pannier system were among the accessories installed. Once the bike was ready, it was time to escape the office and head south in search of something a little more exciting!
