It Happens.
Our friend Helge Pedersen reminded us today why it’s important to ALWAYS wear full protective riding gear. Here is a message from Helge:
"I was just heading down I-5 cruising along in 6th gear when the bike started to wobble and pull to one side. I tried to hold it up, but the bike went down on the left side right away. The bike was skidding down the road ahead of me and I was sliding on my side feeling the heat from the friction and thinking I better roll over. As I came to a stop in the middle of the highway, I looked up to see the car behind me coming to a stop a few meters away. I walked away from the incident without a single scratch on my body thanks to the protective riding gear and helmet I was wearing. As I sat on the side of the road waiting for my friends to arrive with the van, I couldn’t help but notice all the motorcycles passing by with riders wearing tennis shoes and jeans. A sudden flat front tire is what caused the bike to go down today. That can happen at any time."
Helge asked us to share this with you as a reminder to always wear complete protective gear 100% any time you ride. Most accidents happen close to home so don’t let that be an excuse for not pulling on the riding pants for a quick run to the store. Helge was just a few miles from his house when this happened today. Anything can happen at any time, and today it was a simple front tire flat that caused the trouble.
Although Helge walked away without a scratch, his motorcycle wasn’t so lucky. Here are a few photos of Helge’s BMW HP2 after the crash:
