Customer Letter: The Aventuro Pro Helmet Saved My Life!

IMG_8565
Dear Touratech,

Just writing to let you know that my fairly new subject helmet saved my life in a recent accident I had while on a group tour ride in Peru, South America. In 50+ years of riding, this was the first “moving accident” I’d ever had (have had a million low speed dumps, riding ADV for the most part).  I apparently “greyed out” due to hypoxia at high elevation (15,000 + feet above sea level) while riding twisties with my tour group through the Andes in Peru.  I greyed out and missed a curve, plunging down a steep incline with a perpendicular ditch further down the hill.  I don’t remember any of it, but riders behind me said I never even applied the brakes, and the ditch sent the R1200GS and me somersaulting down the hill, with pannier boxes launching 15′ in the air.

Other riders and support truck found me unconscious, face down and with my badly broken arm twisted up behind me.  Although I did have a slight gash and some forehead bruising, my head was not damaged (later mri confirmed no head problems).  I was taken to a country hospital 2 hours away, where I was told I needed to head back to the USA for arm surgery asap.  I had surgery immediately upon return and am recovering nicely.

I just felt compelled to thank you for such a great helmet product, and now I know why a snug fit is so essential.  I’ll be ordering a new helmet from you soon!  Attaching some pics of the crashed helmet (which I left in the dumpster in Peru).

PS…can’t believe the sun visor beak stayed on….don’t know where the faceshield ended up.
